A CALL has been issued for enthusiastic volunteers to help protect members of a rare species’ habitat near Eastleigh.
The Highbridge Conservation Group is seeking members to help preserve the water meadows in Highbridge, which are home to the Southern Damselfly and other species.
The Southern Damselfly
Plans are in place to restore the 17th century earthwork – but the group needs your help.
Group member Lyndsey Rowe said: “I was chatting with the landowner of Highbridge Farm before Christmas.

“He was saying how much help he needed to preserve the water meadows and the Southern Damselfly habitat, so I started a little group in January and we have been working since.
“We only have a handful of volunteers but we are growing. We really need a carpenter or two to volunteer.”
A fundraising page has been set up to help cover the costs of tools and equipment needed to restore the meadows to their former glory and safe space for species.

Lyndsey said: “We have great plans for the future, with a log cabin for our headquarters and hopefully a website which will live stream from bird boxes and bird feeding stations to educate people about the wildlife in Eastleigh.
“People who join will be getting out into beautiful countryside, helping endangered species, meeting a great bunch of people, reducing their carbon footprint, and doing all sorts of good for their mental health.”
