A FIRE which left 12 people needing treatment involved bedding in a basement, the fire service has confirmed.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has revealed that bedding was involved in the blaze on Southampton's High Street yesterday evening.
At around 7.30pm, firefighters rushed to the three-storey building after a resident heard a smoke alarm going off and alerted others.
The fire was contained in the basement and did not spread to the rest of the building.
Residents were evacuated for their safety with fire crews directing them out of the building.

Twelve people were left with smoke inhalation and had to be treated by paramedics.
The incident was made safe by 8.56pm that evening.
