A SOUTHAMPTON man who was caught with 78 Diazepam pills has appeared in court.

Benjamin Strode-Gibbons, 34, was found to be carrying 78 Diazepam pills in Armstrong Estate, Woolwich, on February 13.

Diazepam, which was first marketed as Valium, is commonly used to treat anxiety, seizures, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, muscle spasms, insomnia, and restless legs syndrome.

Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, he admitted one charge of the possession of a class C drug.

Strode-Gibbons, of Carpathian Close, Southampton, was discharged conditionally for 12 months and the pills were seized and destroyed.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £22 and court costs of £85.
