DOZENS of people are set to walk, skip and hop over a mile in a bid to raise money for a Southampton hospice caring for some of the city's most vulnerable.

Giant bubbles, stilt walking, juggling and an acrobat will all feature in Mountbatten’s new-look Sunflower Walk.

The hospice fundraiser returns to Broadlands, Romsey, on Sunday, July 3.

The 2K walk is the hospice's biggest fundraising event of the year.

Mountbatten carer Stuart Rankin will join the walkers by pulling a hospice bed around the route for two hours.

“I really want to do something fun and a little bit different to help raise the profile of what we do,” said Stuart.

“Many people across Southampton and west Hampshire don’t know about us, they don’t realise we are their local hospice, and they certainly don’t know about the work we do in the community.

“Money raised at the Sunflower Walk helps us look after people at the hospice and in their own homes, and the number of people we support is growing all the time, so this event is so important to us.”

Live music, balloon modelling, face painting and food vendors will also be at the event.

To celebrate the hospice’s 45th anniversary year there will also be a yellow-themed fancy dress competition, with a pair of Paulton’s Park tickets up for grabs for the best-dressed walker.

Adult tickets for the walk cost £15 and for children, £10.

Ticket prices include the entertainment, a medal at the finish line and a special sponsorship pack.

Walkers can choose to walk multiple laps to make it more challenging if preferred.

The walk starts at 10am.
