A POPULAR community pub has been voted the Echo's Pub of the Year.

The Bricklayer's Arms in Millbrook is celebrating after being crowned the Daily Echo Pub of the Year.

The Echo hosted a competition asking readers to nominate their favourite drinking haunt.

The nominations were whittled down to ten pubs and from then on readers were able to vote with coupons.

We can now confirm that The Bricklayer's Arms on Wimposon Lane has taken the crown.

Landlady Trish Ribton said the team was "over the moon" having found out they have taken the top spot.

"We only took the pub over in 2020," she said.

"The first year was a bit out the window.

"For our customers to vote for us is just amazing.

"We're a real community pub, it's all locals who love their routine, we are a big community family."

Trish, who owns the lease on the pub with her husband and her daughter, Becky Wright, said that her biggest seller is Fosters.

The pub serves "classic pub grub" including burgers and pies, but the customer favourite is sausage and chips.

Trish described the watering hole as "very down to earth" as well as being sports orientated.

The team consists of pub manager Michelle Gould along with three part-time and full-time staff.

On August 28, the team will be hosting a charity fun day to raise cash for Macmillan Cancer.

Trish said: "This is a charity very close to mine and my daughter's heart as we both have cancer.

"Becky was diagnosed seven years ago and I was diagnosed last year.

"The support we have had from the Macmillan nurses has been amazing.

"The response from our customers has been amazing and so many people have donated so far.

"Lots of customers at the pub have lost someone to cancer so this is also a cause they want to support."

The fun day, running from 2pm to 7pm, will see face painting, a 60s,70s and 80s-themed disco, fancy dress and lots of games including a raffle.
