INSPIRED by his mum’s work, an Eastleigh man is going to put his best foot forward in this year’s London Marathon to raise cash for charities.

Jack Higdon is hoping to raise £1,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities and Southampton charity Abby’s Heroes in the marathon on October 2.

The 21-year-old plumber wants to give back to the charities that have helped his mum Tracy Higdon, a sister with more than 25 years of nursing experience at Southampton General Hospital.

'Massive admiration'

Jack said: “I want to raise money for the charities that help mum and the children she looks after.

“I know how terrible it can be for the families so I thought it would be a good thing to raise money for.

“I was definitely inspired by mum and I have massive admiration for her.

“Abby’s Heroes and Ronald McDonald are the main charities that help her at work by supporting the families of the children in her ward.”

'A challenge'

In just under three weeks alone Jack has already raised £321 for both of his chosen charities.

He said: “I decided to do the marathon as I thought it would be a challenge as well as a way of raising money for good causes.

“It’s something people can get behind.

“Doing this is so important to my mum and it’s amazing how much of a difference these charities can make and how they can help so many families.”
