THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covering much of the south of England and Wales tomorrow (Thursday, June 23).

The warning, which includes all of Hampshire, comes into force at 10am, and lasts until 11.59pm.

The weather forecaster has said that thunderstorms and torrential downpours may cause travel disruption and, in a few places, flooding.

What to expect

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads

Residents are being urged to take care when necessarily travelling.

Sharing the warning on social media, Hampshire County Council encouraged people living in the county to stay "weather aware", signposting them to the Met Office to stay on top of updates: metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice.
