DEVELOPERS have been given the green light to tear down a nursery and turn it into flats – despite a number of objections.

Eastleigh Borough Council has approved an application to make ‘efficient use’ of a site in Leigh Road.

The former nursery is currently vacant but will soon be replaced by a three-storey building home to nine flats.

The plans were given the go-ahead on June 22 to construct the flats, parking spaces, and cycle and bin stores.

The new building will replace a “less attractive building” on a “defining corner plot.”

However, a number of objections were made during the consultation period.

One nearby resident objected to the plans and said the new building would be a “nightmare.”

They said: “There are flats going up everywhere in this area that are unnecessary and ugly.

“This building right next door to our flats, as well covering them in dust and being very noisy, would be a nightmare.”

Another resident said the old nursery site is “unsuitable” for residential development, and it would be better served as a commercial building that residents can use.
