A WEST End musical is coming to Southampton - and it's a classic.

Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical is coming to the Mayflower Theatre next summer.

It will be playing from August 16 to September 3, 2023.

The West End and Broadway smash hit will feature the classic songs from the 1970s film as well as new numbers.

Organisers say it will take viewers to a world of pure imagination.

The show is based on the Roald Dahl book and the (2005) Warner Bros film, with music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

There is also a book of the musical by David Greig.

In the story, young boy Charlie wins a golden ticket in a chocolate bar that grants him a visit to the weird and wonderful Wonka Chocolate Factory.

However, him and the five other winners discover that not everything is as sweet as it seems.

It is directed by James Brining and designed by Simon Higlett.

The Leeds Playhouse production of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – The Musical is produced by Neal Street Productions & Playful Productions.

Casting is to be announced soon.
