POLICE launched an attempted murder investigation on Saturday following an incident at a block of flats in Millbrook.
A woman has been arrested as a result and a man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries to his head.
Below is what we know so far on what actually happened and the police investigation.
The incident
Police were called out to Irving Road in Millbrook at 1.50am on Saturday.
A 52-year-old man was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious head injuries while a 46-year-old woman from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
She has since been released on police bail.
What do residents say?
The scene of the incident looked quiet on Saturday morning, with only two police officers stood by the flats.
A police cordon was in place to keep people away from the scene.
Residents in the area said they weren't woken up by the incident.
Many were surprised to see the cordon in the morning and wondered what had happened.
How is the man doing?
Due to patient confidentiality we don't have many details on the man taken to hospital.
However, police said he was in a stable condition and confirmed he has now been discharged.
