A MAN in his 80s has been left with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a Ford Transit van.

The van hit the man at around 2pm yesterday on Marine Parade West, Lee-on-the-Solent.

Police have arrested a 48-year-old man, from Gosport, on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The pensioner is in hospital and has suffered severe injuries.

Police say the van failed to stop but was later located in Curdridge.

The man arrested was held on suspicion of being in charge of a motor vehicle while alcohol level above limit, failing to stop, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink-driving and drug-driving.

Hampshire police are keen to speak to witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage of the collision, or the moments just before or after.
