In this gallery is the Daily Echo’s second selection of local Scout pictures from the past.

The picture below was printed with last week’s Scout pictures, but it prompted a couple of readers to get in touch.

The image is of the 3rd Itchen Scouts – one of the oldest clubs in the city – taken about 1934 or 1935.

Among those in the photograph are Bill Smith, group scout leader, George Burtt, Jim Hulbert, Jack Hasler, Doug Prudden, Lionel Topp, George “GB’’ Bartlett (assistant Scoutmaster), Stan “Soupy’’ West, Ron Hulbert, Cyril Russell, Peter Smith, George Nicol, Roy Bartlett, Doug Legg and Jimmy Brooks.

One reader on the Daily Echo website commented: “Back row, 2nd left, is my dad, George Burtt.

“It would have been his 99th birthday yesterday.”

Michael Gale also got in touch and wrote: “I was a member of the 3rd Itchen Scout Troop for many years and have visited the building that is still standing.

“The 3rd was led by a fantastic skipper, Brian Shattower, who I believe died last year.

“In 1967, at a Jamboree put on by the 3rd, I met my wife of now 61 years.”

Michael would love to hear any more information about the old Scout group, so if you have any, or if you have any old Scout pictures or Scouting memories you'd like to share, use the box below.
