A MAN has been released under investigation after a pensioner was hit by a van.

The victim, who is in his 80s, was left with life-threatening injuries.

He was hit by the Ford Transit at around 2pm on Sunday on Marine Parade West, Lee-on-the-Solent.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man, from Gosport, on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

He has now been released under investigation.

DC Cate Paling of Hampshire police said: "We are really grateful to everyone who has contacted us so far as part of our investigation.

"One thing we remain keen to do is piece together the van's journey in the build up to the incident.

"If you saw a grey 2018-plate Transit van in the lead up to 2pm, then please get in touch.

"We particularly want to hear from anyone with CCTV footage outside their home or business, or dash cam footage."
