MOST of us remember Southampton Balloon and Flower Festival with great fondness – but it wasn’t without it’s problems.

Like in 2002 when rain put a dampener on proceedings.
Hot air balloons had to remain tethered throughout the event the previous year because of foot-and-mouth restrictions and, in July 2002, many of the balloons were grounded again.

Daily Echo:

But it didn’t put off 150,000 visitors over the two days – the biggest crowd ever seen at the event on Southampton Common.
Balloon flights were limited on the Saturday and cancelled entirely on Sunday due to wet weather and winds.
