A NUMBER of residents have said they no longer feel safe after a man died following an early hours “disturbance”.
Residents of Cranbury Terrace in Southampton have spoken out after a man was arrested on suspicion of murder today, Wednesday June 29.
Police were called to the area just before 4am.
A 30-year-old man was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries but later died.
Officers believe there is no wider risk to the public but some residents fear for their own safety in what is usually a “quiet neighbourhood”.
'It's quite scary'
Resident Natasha Brown, 45, said: “Something like this is quite serious. It's quite scary. It makes me want to move out. I think everybody is in shock.
“It makes you not want to leave your house. I don't go out much as it is but this makes you anxious to leave the house.
"It's usually such a quiet neighbourhood. People say hello. I just feel sorry for the guy who passed away."
Vitalia Ilcsyuk, who lives on the ground floor of a Cranbury Terrace property, says she is considering erecting a fence outside her window in light of the incident.
The 50-year-old said: “I am very worried as I am on the ground floor and my partner was away for work last night.
“I am planning to ask the building management to put up a fence outside my window because of this. I am worried for my safety."
'Shouting and screaming'
Blood was visible next to an evidence marker on the steps of a property in Cranbury Terrace, which is home to a number of flats and a supported housing facility.
A police cordon remains in place as officers carry out high-visibility patrols in the area.
One resident said they heard “a lot of shouting and screaming”.
The resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I heard a lot of shouting and screaming at 3am to 4am. I didn't pay much attention as there is often quite a lot of noise in the street at night.
"It went on for quite a while though, about 40 minutes or so."
No wider risk
Detective Chief Inspector Danielle Daltrey has said the force does not believe there is any wider risk to the public at this time.
She said: "Firstly, I would like to say my thoughts are with the family of the man who has died.
“I understand this incident will be of concern to the local community, but I would like to reassure them that we do not believe there is any wider risk to the public at this time.
"Our investigation is at an early stage and we are working hard to establish exactly what happened.
“If you were in the vicinity of Cranbury Terrace at the time, did you hear or see anything out of the ordinary or of concern?
"Do you have any dash cam, ring doorbell or CCTV footage that could aid our investigation?
"If so, please contact us as soon as you can – you could make a real difference."
