A MAN has died after being found injured on a busy road in Southampton.

Police were called to Thomas Lewis Way on Thursday morning to reports of a man being found injured in the road. 

Multiple roads were closed off including Woodmill Lane and Thomas Lewis Way.

Officers later confirmed that the man had died. 

Below is everything we know so far about the incident: 

What happened to the man?

The man, who was in his 20s, was discovered on Thomas Lewis Way at around 5.40am on Thursday. 

He was injured and taken to hospital. 

Later that morning, at around 11am, police confirmed that he had died. 

His family were informed and have been supported by specialist officers. 

How long was the road closed for? 

Thomas Lewis Way was closed throughout the morning between the junctions with Mayfield Road and Stoneham Way. 

A police cordon was set up on the road as well as on Woodmill Lane which runs over where the incident took place. 

Delays were caused across the area as well as on Stoneham Way between junction 7 of the M27 and the A27 with tailbacks of around 20 minutes during rush hour.

What has the reaction been to the news of the man's death?

Messages of condolence poured in from Echo readers for the man who died and his family.

Sharryn Rice said: "My Heart goes out to his parents, God Bless him."

"Dreadful for all who knew the young nipper. 20 is no age. RIP Nipper," wrote Mike Allott.

Heather Gooch added: "So sad RIP young man my thoughts are with your family." 

Other tributes left for the man included Abigail Shoebridge's comment: "Very saddest think of his family and friends."

Katharine Muirhead added: "RIP young man, condolences to your family and friends." 

What is happening now after the incident?

The circumstances of the man's death are not yet known but all police are understood to have left the area yesterday morning. 

Delays continued throughout the morning around the area with multiple officers remaining on the scene. 

Police could be seen walking around the scene whilst looking at the floor.
