TRIBUTES have been paid to a Hampshire firefighter who passed away following a battle with cancer.

Hampshire fire service announced today crew manager Adrian ‘AJ’ Johnson, a long-standing member of Eastleigh’s White Watch, has died.

In a post online, the service said it is with "great sadness" that they confirmed his passing.

They said: "Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues."

Eastleigh Fire Station said AJ "always had a smile" and was "never too busy to help anyone."

A number of emergency services have also paid tribute to AJ.

Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Our deepest condolences are with AJ’s family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.

"A great guy and always a pleasure to work with. We will stand for a few minutes today to pay our respects for his loss. #999Family."

Fellow firefighters also shared their condolences online.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with AJ’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time. #FireFamily."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Services added: "Our thoughts are with Adrian's family, friends and colleagues at this sad time."
