FLOWERS have been laid to pay tribute to the 30-year-old man who died in a Southampton residential street.

The man was found in Cranbury Terrace in the early hours of Wednesday.

Although it was first treated as a suspected murder, police now say he died due to an injury that did not involve another person.

The 38-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has now been released from custody and will face no further action.

A large police cordon was set up in Cranbury Terrace as forensics officers searched the area for clues.

A heavy police presence was also seen on Thursday. The police cordon was removed mid-afternoon.

Flowers have been left at the scene to pay tribute to the man who died shortly after being taken to hospital on Wednesday.

On the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Danielle Daltrey said: "I would like to say my thoughts are with the family of the man who has died."

Residents have told of the "shock" of incidents like this happening so close to home.

Lisa Davis, who lives on Cranbury Terrace, said that it is "quite scary" and that the incident has made her "reluctant to [walk] down that way now".

The 45-year-old added that she heard "lots of shouting" in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

She said: "All I heard was lots of shouting going on. I didn't know what was going on until the morning with the police around."

The 38-year-old man who has now been released had also been arrested for assault by beating of an emergency worker.

This involved a detention officer he kicked when he was taken to custody.

For this office, he has received a conditional caution.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.
