SIX people were moved on after police were given extra powers to combat anti-social behaviour in Southampton city centre.

A dispersal order was put in place at 3pm on Wednesday following increased reports of young people causing trouble in the Cossak Green area.

The order, which expired last night, gave officers the power to make anyone involved in anti-social behaviour leave the area.

A police spokesperson said: "It has been in place for the last couple of days following a rise in antisocial behaviour reported in Cossack Green, and gave us extra powers to move people on we believe to be committing anti-social behaviour or they will be arrested.

"We used these increased powers to move on six people from the area at 5.30pm yesterday, and they cannot return for 24 hours. We will continue to patrol the area."

The spokesperson said reports from the public helped police to ensure they had the right officers in the right place at the right time.

They added: "Please continue to report anti-social behaviour in your neighbourhood to us via 101 or reporting online – it makes a big difference."
