A CAR has been seized by police after the driver and passengers acted "suspiciously".
Officers from the Southampton West Neighbourhood Team and Response and Patrol were in the area around South Mill Road and Regents Park Road in Southampton when the white MG SUV was first spotted.
It was deemed suspicious as it was driving off at speed from the police vehicles.
It was then found abandoned, unlocked and with the radio still blaring out.
Officers later located what they believed to be the occupants but no-one would take responsibility for the driving.
The car was seized under Section 165 of the road traffic act.
A spokesperson from the force said: "The onus is now on the driver to prove they were insured at the time the car was being driven.
"It could be a very expensive day for the owner. If they are unable to prove the vehicle was being used legally at the time they will be responsible for the recovery costs or lose the car to auction if they don’t claim it.
"We’ll continue to look for evidence of the driver so we can prosecute them."
