IN response to the theme of “That’s Entertainment”, there was enthusiasm and excitement among the attendees an spectators at Southampton Carnival in July 1978.
The parade was headlined by the Carnival Queen’s horse-drawn landau, which was one of about 100 colourful floats.
Carnival Queen Jo Hobbs led a galaxy of ‘royalty’ along with Princesses Kim Furnish and Sandra Weber. In addition to the local carnival queens, this included the Queen of Le Havre, Catherine Dumouchet.
The procession snaked along High Street for two and a half hours before turning off at West Street and returning to Above Bar. Then it was up London Road, along The Avenue, and across the Common
