TWO teenagers have been arrested after windows were smashed during a break-in at a village bike shop.

In the early hours of yesterday morning (July 11), police received reports of a burglary-in-progress at a bike shop on Lyndhurst Road, Brockenhurst.

It is said that two people had been seen breaking into the store, smashing windows to gain access, and stealing two bicycles.

The pair were then spotted fleeing the area on a motorbike whilst carrying the bicycles.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit descended on the area and spotted a motorbike matching a description they had been given.

But upon trying to stop the vehicle, the bike was abandoned with the rider and passenger taking off on foot.

Following a chase by police, two teenage boys have now been arrested.

A 16-year-old boy from Andover was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Whilst another 16-year-old boy from Totton was found by a dog unit in an area of undergrowth near Ashhurst campsite.

He was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

Both remain in custody and the two bicycles have now been recovered and returned.

The motorbike was also recovered, but work is still ongoing to return it to its registered owner.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We appreciate the theft of bicycles is a cause for concern across the New Forest, especially during summer months, and this continues to be a high-profile District priority for our Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

"They will be continuing to conduct routine, high-visibility patrols in local hot-spot areas.

"Anyone affected by this crime type is encouraged to report this to police on 101, or via the online reporting tool on our website: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/.

"As always, if you see a crime in progress, please dial 999 immediately."
