A PORT worker has died at Southampton docks.

Deep sea container terminal operator DP World said the man was a worker at the company and died this morning due to natural causes.

South Central Ambulance Service said the worker was "in an extremely difficult to access area".

The company has suspended all operations until 7pm today as a mark of respect.

Emergency services were seen this morning on First Avenue, near Dock Gate 20.

A spokesman for DP World in the UK said: “Very sadly, a colleague was taken ill and passed away of natural causes at Southampton earlier today.

"As a mark of respect we have temporarily suspended operations, the family is being informed and emergency services remain on site.”
