TRAVELLERS have now moved on from Southampton Sports Centre.

The centre on Thornhill Road has been shut since Friday but says it has reopened today.

It is understood that around 30 caravans and cars were parked on the site, after entering via Dunkirk Road on Friday.

The centre has been "working hard" with police and the city council, and with city services teams to "clear up" the site.

The visitors moved on "peacefully and without incident", following "an instruction from the police", according to Matt Renyard, councillor for Coxford.

According to one resident, there was a large police presence in the area on Friday afternoon.
