The heartbroken mother of murdered teenager Lewis Singleton today spoke of the family's grief and said justice had not been done.

Jeanette Singleton spoke emotionally outside Winchester Crown Court as the four week trial came to an end.

Mrs Singleton said: "We are now left with questions that need answering. Rikki Johnson was on tag, but he was able to murder Lewis and with the others playing a part in his death."

She added: "His wealth of friends and popularity was due to his warm, caring nature and kind, considerate ways. He stood out from the crowd and he always put his family first and was a peacemaker.

"Lewis had never been in any trouble with the police and we never had any concern regarding his behaviour. He was our son, brother, grandson and uncle. He was out best friend, soulmate and mentor. He was our life.

"There are no words or actions strong enough to express our grief and pain or not having Lewis around any more."

Mrs Singleton was flanked by family members and fighting back tears as she spoke to the media outside the court. Members of the family wore special t-shirts bearing Lewis' picture and a tribute to him.

Detective Sgt Richard Sellwood, who was the main officer in the case said he was as pleased as he could be with the verdict.

He said: "It was a totally unprovoked and unwarranted piece of violence. These five youths were cruising the streets looking for trouble.

"I can hand on heart say that Lewis wasn't drunk. He was a good lad who had never brought police to his parent's door.

"He was a totally innocent victim making his way home."
