SOUTHAMPTON-based rapper Tyrone has secured a place in the UK’s Official Big Top 40 this week with his new single This Is What I Need.

Featuring Essex-based vocalist Leanne Louise and produced by the multi-platinum selling N3RD, it was introduced as a new entry on Capital FM’s chart countdown on Sunday and is currently sitting at number 29.

This follows a spell at number one on the iTunes chart on its release date which placed it ahead of big names including Beyoncé, Harry Styles and Kate Bush.

The summer hit has already received multiple plays on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Kiss FM and other national radio stations - and was heard by millions as part of the soundtrack on the Love Island final on ITV earlier this week.

It has also been viewed more than 40 million times on video-hosting service TikTok - placing it in the platform’s UK Hot Trending Sounds category - and has been featured a featured sound on more than 10,000 video creations on the platform.

The chart entry is the latest in a string of successes for Tyrone since being signed to Sony Music in August last year, with his remix of Way Too Long with chart stars Anne-Marie and Nathan Dawe also placing in the UK’s Official Chart.

Daily Echo:

“There has been a real buzz about This is What I Need and it is an amazing feeling to enter the Official Big Top 40 coming off the back of a spell at number one in the iTunes chart ahead of so many big names,” said Tyrone.

“I want to thank everyone for their support so far with this single and my previous releases and it is an absolute privilege for me to be able to keep flying the flag for the music scene in the South, hopefully inspiring others along the way.”

Tyrone’s single This is What I Need is available for download now.

Daily Echo:

His next release, a remix of the hit single Stay The Night by Sigala and Talia Mar alongside fellow rapper ZieZie, will be available from Friday August 12.
