DAMAGE has been caused to power and telephone lines by a fallen tree in a village. 

Police were called at around 6.30pm yesterday after reports of a tree down outside Copythorne Church of England School on Romsey Road. 

The tree was blocking the road and damaged was caused to power and telephone lines in the area.

SSE attended to ensure the area remained safe for residents. 

meanwhile, police put in place road closures between Pound Lane and Pollards Moor Road. 

A spokesperson for the force later posted on Facebook saying: "Totton NPT are currently assisting with an incident at Copythorne Scout Hut.

"A tree has fallen in the road, taking power lines, phone lines etc with it. No injuries to anyone, and Road closures are in place at the junctions with Pound Lane, and Pollards Moor Road.

"Please take alternative routes, thanks."
