TRAVELLERS have invaded another leisure site in Southampton after moving on from their previous home a short distance away.

The city council has confirmed that an unauthorised encampment has sprung up on the five-acre Lordshill Recreation Ground in Redbridge Lane.

Travellers are occupying the site after spending about a week at Milbrook Recreation Ground off Third Avenue.

In a statement on its website the council said it was aware of the latest incursion.

The statement added: "Southampton City Council will be working with partners to complete statutory welfare checks prior to a decision being made as to how to proceed.

"Any reports of criminality or anti-social behaviour should be reported to the police.

"Southampton City Council will work with partners, including the police and the occupants of the encampment, to resolve this situation and reduce any impact on the community."

About 15 caravans are currently occupying the site.
