A GREAT GRANDMOTHER of four has shared the secret to a long life as she celebrates her 105th birthday.

Staff at Brendoncare Knightswood Care home surprised the centenarian with a birthday cream tea and a harmonising choir, on Thursday.

She turned 105 on Saturday but had the party a few days beforehand.

May Morris, from Holbury, has lived at Knightswood for the last ten years.

When asked what the secret to reaching the milestone age, May answered with “good food, lots of veg and sloe gin”.

She was born in the small village of Hardly near Hythe, where she had wanted to be in the RAF since she was very young.

When she got older, she started working for a company in Hythe that made parts of Spitfires and other aeroplanes.

She worked in that factory for only about three weeks before she was trained to be an inspector. She worked in this role until she had children.

May, a mother of two, a grandmother of six and a great-grandmother of four, is said to have always remained optimistic and has a supportive family around her.

Staff at Knightswood describe her as having a large personality in the home and full of words of wisdom for all.
