A MAN has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Hampshire convenience store.

He was detained by officers investigating a hold-up at the Tesco Express store in Watson Walk, Totton, last Friday.

Two members of staff were on duty at 6.10am when a masked raider entered the back of the shop and produced a gun.

He bundled the terrified employees into a toilet before emptying the tills.

Armed police rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised but the robber had fled with cash and cigarettes.

Today police announced that a 31-year-old man from the New Forest had been arrested in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said the suspect had been released on bail, pending further inquiries, and was due to report back to Lyndhurst police station on May 2.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the hold-up.

Anyone with information should contact Lyndhurst CID on 0845 045 4545 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
