THEY have already caught a pirate.

Now they have their eyes on a treasure chest that will reduce the suffering of Hampshire's brain injury patients.

For six months Sophie Wilkinson has fought hard to stay alive after a horror crash in Swanmore in which she suffered life-threatening head injuries.

Now her family wants to draw on the inspiration of the 17-year-old's phenomenal fighting spirit and take on a mammoth fundraising challenge.

Having recruited Hollywood hunk Johnny Depp to help wake up their daughter, Allison and Andrew are now looking to the generosity of Daily Echo readers.

The Wilkinson family, from Bishops Waltham has set up the Sophie's Gift Fundraising Programme with the enormous task to raise £300,000 in one night at a star-studded gala ball.

Sophie's first gift will be a Ceretom head and neck mobile CT scanner, with extra funds used to buy other equipment for by the Wessex Neurological Centre at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust.

Dad Andrew said: "We want to epitomise her phenomenal fighting spirit by giving something back to the department that has done so much to help Sophie's fight.

"Sophie has had dozens of brain and body scans, which are dangerous as she has to be disconnected from her life-support. The mobile scanner would dramatically improve the wellbeing of patients."

To get the cash flowing in the family has organised a charity gala dinner on July 5 at the Macdonald Botley Park and Country Club. Sharon Osbourne, Richard Hammond, Southampton Football Club and Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp have vowed to do what they can to get involved.

Southampton's very own international star Craig David, R 'n' B star Jay Sean, and American hip-hop band Uness have also pledged their support.

Guests will get the chance to bid for some luxury prizes in the exclusive auction, including the chance to play for ten-minutes at the testimonial match of Saints legend Claus Lundekvam against Celtic.

Mum Alison said: "Sophie would have absolutely loved everything we have planned.

Tickets for the event cost £65. To book your ticket email tickets@sohpies-gift.com.

Sophie also has a community page where businesses are being urged to donate £1,000 to get their name up on the website. To get involved visit sophies-community.co.uk.
