A BID has been launched to turn a former gaming shop into a convenience store.

Councillors are set to consider giving a premises licence for Alfriston Local in Alfriston Gardens, Sholing.

The applicant wants to sell alcohol from 6am to midnight each day.

Police have not made an objection.

However, the owner of the neighbouring hair salon has raised concerns.

Laura Hunt, from Headhunters Hair Salon, said: "I do not have an objection for an alcohol licence to be granted but do wish to object to the length of time it will be on sale.

"I have now had my salon for 15 years and up until December 2019 News Plus had an alcohol licence, this business closed due to the owners retiring.

"I believe they were able to sell from 6am till they closed at 7pm.

"People live in the flats about the shops and also many locals close by who could be affected if a licence from 6am to 12am is granted.

"Would like to request that a sensible time is allowed in order for all to be happy."

She added: "I know people are worried that a late licence plus the combination of the Sholing Grill at the other end of row of shops might encourage some late night trouble."

In a published bid online, the applicant Anton Croos said: "This is a former (gaming) shop and closed. "It is now will be a local convenience store.

"The store will give new life to this parade of other commercial premises.

"This store will be refitted newly.

"Applicant has been in licensed retail over 10 years, and gained experience."

A decision is due to be made on Wednesday at the Licensing (Licensing and Gambling) Sub-Committee - Wednesday, 21st September, 2022 4.00 pm
