SCORES of fundraisers could be spotted ambling through the New Forest in memory of a much-loved Hampshire grandmother.

Inspired by the tireless campaigning of Denise "Dee" Mason, 160 walkers strolled through the New Forest on their annual walk for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Helping others Dee, who was 62, helped other cancer victims as she battled the disease herself.

Before she died in 2006 she had raised thousands for the charity.

This year's three-mile walk from Nomansland raised more than £15,000, bringing the total sum raised to date to more than £44,000.

John Sillett, former Chelsea player and Coventry City football manager, opened the day, and following the walk a range of fun activities were on offer on the village green.

Event organiser Teresa Moriaty said: "The turn-out was fantastic, and the support that the event received from the village and from local businesses was just brilliant.

"Without the help of these people we wouldn't have been able to do it but everyone has been so supportive.

"Dee would have loved the event. She wanted the event to grow in size and that is just what has happened this year. She would have been proud as punch."
