HE will be hoping his 60-year-old car can last the distance.

Hampshire classic car enthusiast George Proudfoot is taking part in a 100-mile charity rally in his 1948 Rover P3 sport saloon 75.

Along with about 150 other classic, historic and unusual cars, his Rover will make the journey through 100 miles of countryside, starting and finishing at Lufton College in Yeovil.

The event, taking place on Saturday, will be raising money for Mencap.

The Autoglym Mencap Classic has raised £40,000 for the charity since it was first staged in 2000. George, from Fareham, has taken part four times before.

The professional classic sports car restorer, who will be joined by his wife Julie, said: "A lot of car enthusiasts always take part and there is a great atmosphere."
