MYSTERY continues to surround how a naked man ended up walking along the central reservation of a Hampshire motorway.

Police investigating how the 20-year-old ended up on the M3 have been unable to make contact with the man after he failed to turn up to an appointment with them.

As reported in the Daily Echo, the walker was spotted between junction 12 for Allbrook and junction 13 for Eastleigh.

Officers were investigating claims that he had been abducted, stripped of his clothes and then abandoned. However, they have not been able to make contact with the man since he was picked up.

Four motorists made calls to police to alert them to the naked walker, who was seen on the M3 walking south at about 9pm on Monday.

Police went to the scene and picked up the man and took him back to a station in Southampton where he was interviewed.

The walker, who is being treated as a victim of a crime, was then taken home having made an appointment to see police and explain what happened yesterday.

However, officers confirmed he did not turn up and they were waiting to speak to him further.

Police are continuing to investigate and want to speak to anyone who saw a blue Peugeot car stopping on the M3 that evening.

Anyone with information about what happened should call police in Shirley on 0845 045 4545.
