IT’S the tiny cocktail bar with a zen-like tropical courtyard garden, live music and delicious afternoon teas.

OX:47, in the heart of Southampton's historic Oxford Street, is fast building a reputation as a friendly, intimate and informal micro bar.

With £5 pints of house lager, billed as the cheapest on Oxford Street, and great handcrafted premium cocktails including the signature Espresso Martini and Coffee Liqueur, there's lots to enjoy on the drinks menu.

The food too is a treat, encompassing everything from speciality £3 match day hot dogs before customers make the short walk to St Mary's to see Saints to pre-bookable graze boards for a leisurely afternoon with friends, family or colleagues. Cream teas are always particularly popular.

It's the perfect place for an informal wedding reception for up to 25, for those who don't want a fuss or don't have a big budget. Free private hire is also offered for business lunches, networking sessions and other events.

OX:47's delightful courtyard garden, which is perfect for summer evenings, often plays host to barbecues.

Daily Echo:

An open mic night hosted by stripped-back acoustic covers duo The Mucky Fingers will start soon.

OX:47 is housed inside a Grade II listed building, which forms part of the city street with the strongest historical links to Titanic.

It was where crew and passengers lived, stayed, ate and drank before embarking on the infamous journey back in 1912.

Daily Echo:

The building was previously a hotel at around the turn of the century and has also been a hairdressing salon, a designer store called Wharfside and a craft ale bar.

Licensee of two years Sarah-Jane Savage has found a real home among the eclectic mix of eateries, bars and other venues along Oxford Street since opening the business between the two Covid-19 lockdowns.

The support of customers and neighbours has seen her put the struggles of the pandemic well and truly behind her.

Daily Echo:

She told the Daily Echo: "We started trading in between lockdowns and, as a micro venue, we have really relied on the kindness of Southampton residents and support from all over the city.

"Competing with local big money funded competitors and also big chain names has been a massive challenge, but I'm lucky to have had the support and encouragement from other business owners in Oxford Street and am proud to be part of the diverse family there."
