A THAI restaurant in Southampton has been broken into for the second time this month, owners say.

Mango Thai Tapas on Portswood Road was targeted by vandals who smashed their windows to steal money.

The incident at around 6.15am on Thursday, October 6 was the second in two weeks, the restaurant has said.

The independent eatery has two more branches in Ocean Village and the city centre.

A spokesperson for the chain shared on social media: "We were yet again victims of a break-in last night and our lovely front window was smashed.

"Twice in two weeks, we've been targeted by thieves and had money stolen. 

"As if these times weren’t hard enough. 

"We have boarded up the window until it can be fixed next week."

Hampshire police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information. 

Officers have confirmed that the restaurant's front window was smashed to gain entry, and money and a camera were among the items stolen. 

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating a report of a burglary which happened at around 6.15am on Thursday, October 6, at Mango Thai Tapas in Portswood Road.

"The front window was smashed to gain entry, and money and a camera were among the items stolen.

"Anyone with information about this incident can call us on 101 or report it online, quoting 44220406125."

The restaurant remains open to customers while the investigation is ongoing.
