A MAN has been found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl just months after police ordered him to stop approaching young women in the street.

Ismail Mahmood, 20, was found guilty by jurors of raping the teenager at Southampton Crown Court on Friday.

The court previously heard how he had met his victim on a night out in Southampton city centre.

He offered to give her a lift home, and she got into his car. The pair later parked up on a main road, and he climbed into the back of the vehicle and began pulling her clothes off.

She fled after being raped and reported the incident to police the next day.

She later told officers she had felt “confused” and “really drunk” at the time, with a jury being told: “She didn’t know what was happening”.

Mahmood, of Bishopsfield Road, Fareham remained straight-faced as the majority verdict was delivered.

The Echo can now also report that the rape took place just months after Mahmood was made subject to a Community Protection Notice following incidents on two separate occasions.

Prosecuting, Rose Burns said: “The defendant in November last year had been given a warning not to approach young women or to pester or harass them.

“He had been found with a very drunk girl.”

No offence was committed on this occasion but then in January, another incident took place, after which he was handed the notice.

He pleaded guilty to breaching the notice on the night he raped his victim before his trial.

Judge Brian Forster told Mahmood, who required an interpreter throughout the trial, that he would be jailed.

Mahmood was remanded into custody and must now register as a sex offender.

The judge adjourned sentencing to take place on November 11.
