THE SPECTACULAR partial solar eclipse has been caught on camera in the sky above Southampton.

The rare phenomenon was visible from the UK from 10.08am.

It was the second partial eclipse of the year though the first one - on April 30 - couldn't be seen from the UK.

Photographers from the Daily Echo Camera Club shared their photos of the spectacle.

Whether partial or total, solar eclipses are never visible from all parts of Earth since the moon is much smaller and its shadow is just a few hundred miles wide compared to the Earth.

This means it can only fall on part of the planet's surface at any one time.

The next solar eclipse won't be until March 29, 2025.
