SOUTHAMPTON'S 7Bone, which was destroyed in a fire this summer, is "desperate" to reopen.

Crowned the best burger joint in the city by Echo readers, 7Bone was destroyed in a blazing inferno this summer.

A fire ripped through the building in Portswood Road on a busy Friday night in July with staff and customers inside at the time.

Around 75 firefighters from across the county were scrambled as part of an overnight operation.

But four months on, the future of the site still looks uncertain.

A post on a 7Bone social media page said: "The Portswood site is moving painfully slowly, and it's not looking like we'll be back open any time soon.

"So, we are going to give it a couple of weeks to see if it gathers pace and we can pin down a (rough) date (as we're all as desperate as you are for it to reopen!)

However, fans of the popular eatery may be relieved as 7Bone is considering short-term options.

The statement went on to say: "If not, we'll get on the hunt for a new site, a short-term pop-up, kitchen takeovers, or somewhere to temporarily stick the food truck."

7Bone has been rated by Echo readers as one of the best burger restaurants in Southampton on multiple occasions.

It holds a four out of five-star rating on the review website Tripadvisor.

The firm also runs sites in Bournemouth, Hove, Portsmouth, Reading and Staines.

However, 'with a heavy heart' it has recently announced the tough decision it is permanently closing its Eastbourne and Maidstone branches.

It cited being particularly affected by industry challenges and thanked loyal fans.
