TWO POLICE officers have been struck by a car whilst dealing with a crash on the motorway.

Officers were called to the scene on the M27 eastbound near junction 12 for Portsmouth just after 10am today.

Four cars were involved in this crash and one person suffered serious injuries.

While at the scene two officers, who were out of their vehicles, were involved in a crash with a further car.

Those injured are being treated by paramedics.

Chair of the Hampshire Police Federation, Zoe Wakefield, said: “This is the reminder we don’t need of the dangers of policing when officers are at a scene trying to assist members of the public, they themselves become injured.

“My thoughts are with the officers at the moment, and I hope their injuries aren’t serious.”

The eastbound lanes have since reopened to traffic between J11/A27 at Fareham and J12/M275 at Port Solent.
