A woman has died following an incident on the M27 in the early hours of this morning. 

Officers were called to the scene between junction 11 and 12 on the Eastbound side after 2am. 

A 59-year-old woman from Fareham died at the scene.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Officers are keen to speak to any witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam footage.

Traffic was at a complete standstill for the majority of the morning.

The motorway and adjoining roads were affected by the closure, with many roads gridlocked in the Fareham and Port Solent areas. 

Motorists endured hours of traffic tailing all the way back to West End before delays eventually eased late morning.
