A large container ship that got stranded in Southampton Water has sailed to safety.

The MOL Treasure had left for Le Harve in France when it broke down between Fawley and Hamble point.

Tug boats were scrambled on Thursday morning to hold the ship in place.

An ABP spokesperson said five tugs safely manoeuvred the MOL Treasure for a return to berth.

And, that throughout the situation safety remained a paramount focus.

Port teams were on hand to manage marine traffic and safety whilst minimising the impact on port operations.

They also supported pilots onboard the MOL Treasure.

The spokesperson confirmed that tugs helped return the ship to berth following "an ongoing operational issue".
