TAKE a look behind the bar at the Hampshire country pub with award-winning food, a smoker barbecue and its own version of the famous Nando's black card.

The Bakers Arms at Droxford has been under the skilled stewardship of Adam and Anna Cordery for the past 16 years.

The couple snapped up the closed village pub, renovated it and made it their family home.

Anna has since retrained as a nurse and Adam continues to run the pub, which is managed day to day by Bekka with head chef Kieron and Caz second in command in the kitchen.

Over the years, the team has scooped a whole host of awards, being recognised by Michelin with a Bib Gourmand Award, The AA with a Rosette, The Good Pub Guide, The Good Food Guide, Sawday’s and Hampshire Life, who once named it Hampshire Pub of the Year.

Renowned for its tasty Sunday roasts, The Bakers Arms also serves up the likes of hot smoked Hampshire chalk stream trout and poached egg salad, whole baked camembert and Hampshire beef pie, as well as amazing burgers, and steak.

Daily Echo:

There's a reward card scheme for regulars who chose to sign up and a special black card for people who live in the village. While it's not a passport to free chicken, like the Nando's equivalent, there are plenty of good offers for locals.

Tucked away close to the River Meon and plenty of splendid walks, The Bakers Arms enjoys exposed beams and polished wood floors. There's an open log fire in the winter, a sunny patio perfect for sundowners in the summer and a covered outside area, complete with outdoor heaters and twinkling lights.

The building was constructed in the 1800s for the daughters of the bakery next door.

Daily Echo:

These days the pub is renowned for running 'low and slow' American style smoker barbecue days. There's also a monthly quiz.

Neck Oil, Guinness and Moretti are the most popular draught drinks. On the hand pumps, there's at least one local ale, with Insull's the best seller. A popular cocktail menu has been introduced, alongside an extensive wine list.
