Aldi stores in Hampshire are to benefit from a partnership with surplus food platform, Too Good To Go.

Following the successful trial last year, customers will be able to pick up the surplus food bags from Aldi stores.

The “Magic Bags” contain a selection of grocery products that are about to hit their expiry or sell-by dates on the shelves.

Shoppers will benefit as discounts will be a minimum of 66%, meaning someone could get £10 worth of food for just £3.30.

The idea behind this is to reduce food waste and offer consumers better prices on products. It is thought that 9.5 million tonnes of food is wasted in the UK every year.

To get one of these Magic Bags, the Too Good To Go app can be downloaded.

While on the app customers need to search for their local Aldi store and reserve the bag from their closest shop and at the same time allocate a time for collection.

Aldi says the rollout will help the company prevent an extra 4,000 tonnes of food waste every year.

Liz Fox, The Corporate Responsibility Director at Aldi UK, said: “Rolling out our partnership with Too Good To Go is another way of allowing us to cut down on food waste.

“Which also offers customers in Hampshire the opportunity to pick up our food at even lower prices.

“With the rising cost of living impacting so many, Too Good To Go offers a simple and accessible way for consumers to save money and reduce waste.”

Sophie Trueman, the Managing Director for UK and Ireland Too Good To Go, added: “We’re thrilled to be officially launching our partnership with Aldi nationally”.

“Having already had fantastic feedback during a successful trial period, I know our Too Good To Go community in Hampshire is going to jump at the chance to save.”
