Anti-racist campaigners will make their voices heard as they protest against the far-right Britain First's so-called secret meeting.

The demonstration is due to take place today at 7pm in Guildhall Square, Southampton.

This comes as the far-right group plans to hold a secret meeting in the city.

Southampton Stand Up to Racism (SSUTR) and others are demanding that any venue hosting Britain First should cancel the booking.

The organisation believes it is critical for anti-racists to take to the streets.

Members said they will demonstrate whenever and wherever the far right seeks to spread hatred.

Victoria Ugwoeme, chair of the anti-racist group, said: "Britain First is dysfunctional to our society but dangerous if left to carry out their propaganda.

"They are known for their harassment of asylum seekers.

"We are calling for unity against fascism, racism, and oppression.

"Southampton is a peaceful place to live and has no space for hateful politics."

Britain First campaigns against multi-culturalism and what it sees as the Islamisation of the UK.

Speakers at the party's meeting are due to include the party's leader, Paul Golding, 41, who has twice been jailed over his activities.

An email sent to people who might be interested in the Britain First meeting said: "Once you have confirmed your attendance, you will receive the meeting point and time via SMS and email.

"Do not share this email or post it on social media - it is for your eyes only. Please do not share any of the details in this email with anyone."
