Eastleigh: Pizza vending machine arrives on Passfield Avenue

Eastleigh residents can now get a slice of the action following the arrival of Pizza Rebellion’s popular invention.

Situated on Passfield Avenue just adjacent to the Shell garage, the machine serves up freshly-made pizzas from a large storage container.

It arrived in the town at the end of January – but sadly it's not a permanent feature.

A spokesperson from Pizza Rebellion said: “We are constantly on the lookout for suitable locations to launch our concept, give the people the opportunity to love it, and to get the word out there.

“Eastleigh is just a temporary pop-up so the locals will need to be quick, as one minute we’ll be there, the next, we’ll be gone.”

Despite its short tenure in Eastleigh, the vending machine has been well received so far.

The spokesperson added: “The response has been absolutely fantastic and the feedback has been overwhelmingly good.

“Eastleigh is definitely an area we’d like to remain in when the opportunity arises.

“We are really keen to expand throughout Southampton and the south coast to form partnerships with local businesses, with surplus land they can earn rent on.”

The idea of a pizza vending machine was born in lockdown and has since grown in popularity as machines appear along the south coast.

The latest, permanent position to the fleet was installed at BP Sholing in Bursledon Road last September.

The team behind Pizza Rebellion monitors stock levels remotely and can react to “peaks and troughs in the market” to reduce spoilage and wastage to near zero.

The machines use a low amount of electricity, while the boxes and wooden knives provided with the pizza are recyclable.
