THE 1865 music venue in Southampton is looking to revitalise the city’s clubbing scene alongside Club Ready Radio.

Having had successful events in London, Harrogate and Cornwall – DJ and event manager Rob Stevens is hoping to reinvigorate the popularity of clubbing in the city with a blend of techno and trance music.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Rob said: “I’d like to bring back some prestige to the clubbing scene in Southampton.

“In the nicest possible way, a lot of clubs are very similar nowadays and it would be nice to have something that’s a bit more diverse.

“The scene has been decimated since Covid and consecutive recessions.

“It would be great to bring back the golden age of clubbing from the late 90s and early 2000s.

“I fondly regard Southampton as one of the best places to go for clubbing since my clubbing days 20 years ago when I was 19.

“I’ve gone to Ibiza, and I’ve seen the scene in London, but Southampton is something of a sleeping giant.

“I remember going to Junk nightclub back in the day and Ikon nightclub before it became Oceana.

“Again, I have very fond memories of clubbing in Southampton.

“There’s an undercurrent of energy waiting for an underground emergence in the city.”

The multi-day event taking place over March 10 and 11 will see 14 DJs descend on Southampton from all over the country with one DJ travelling from as far away as Portugal to be a part of the proceedings.

Rob added: “This has all come about after we launched our own start-up radio station that kicked off last year.

“We’re new and we’re untested but this is a really exciting time for everyone involved.

“For the event in Southampton I don’t want it to be exclusive – we know that we might not sell out tickets but we hope it will be a euphoric experience and something that caters to everyone’s tastes.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re 18 or 60, coming in from a hard day of work or whether you’ll be with us until the early hours – we’d like to think we have something for everyone.”
