All of the UK is set to be hit by a cold snap at the beginning of next week (Monday, March 6) with Southampton being no exception.

Very cold air will spread across the UK from Monday – bringing snow and a risk of ice, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said.

Weather warnings are likely from the start of next week due to the expected conditions, according to the Met Office.

Together the organisations are warning that all regions of England will experience cold weather from 1 am on Monday (March 6) to midnight on Wednesday (March 8).

Here's a more detailed weather forecast on how this cold weather alert will affect Southampton next week.

Met Office forecast from Monday, March 6

A Met Office spokesperson said: "A change is on the way for Southampton’s weather next week. While Monday will see snow in the north and East of the UK, Southampton will continue to be in slightly milder air, with a chance of some sporadic coastal showers on Monday.

"That colder air that was further north will continue further south and by Tuesday Southampton will feel very cool, with the chance of some showers for a short period, which could well fall as sleet at times, though this is uncertain.

"Overnight temperatures are also likely to be an issue with ice likely to form on many surfaces which could disrupt travel plans.

"From Wednesday, things are quite uncertain with differing model output but broadly cold conditions are expected to remain with further wintry hazards being likely is the most likely scenario.

"There’s an increasing chance of snow in the south of the UK from Wednesday onwards, but this is fairly uncertain at the moment so it’s best to stay up to date with the forecast."
