Thousands of people got their running shoes on for Eastleigh 10K on Sunday.

Runners from the county and afar were blessed with sunshine as they ran the six mile course to support Wessex Heartbeat and the Mayor of Eastleigh's Charity Appeal.

The route started on Passfield Road, towards Shakespeare Road before turning to Twyford Road.

From there the athletes ran southbound on Woodside Avenue before turning to Debry Road and finally finishing at Places Leisure in Eastleigh.

George King, 29, and Callum Upton, 26, are both from Winchester and part of the Winchester and District South Athletic Club.

Running as part of the club, George said: “It went reasonably well, tough day as usual as it is with running.

"This is probably my fourth or fifth run but it went well.

"It's always a bit of a struggle, running is hard, the wind caught me out a bit but it was great to be here.

"We have a pretty big group of Winchester runners here which was nice."

Callum said: “The whole event is just amazing and it's a great day for running.

"I had a bit of an injury flare up so the race itself wasn't amazing but in the back of my mind I knew I had to keep running for the team."

She said: “I really enjoyed it, I think it’s a really good event and I’m happy to come back and do it again.”

She added: “I’m over the moon, I guess I’m always training but I had a bit of an injury last year so I’m even more grateful to be here and get a new PB.”

Rob Callen, 56, from Woolson, who has done a few 10ks himself came with his mates from Lordshill Road Runners

“It was really good, there was a great atmosphere and I managed to get the pace so far.

"I have done it a few times, but I had a break and then I thought that I should get back to doing it, so I did.”
